Vertical Lifeline

Vertical lifelines are systems that are established to prevent workers from falling while working at height and are strengthened with quality equipment to eliminate the risk of work accidents. Vertical lifelines, which are among the necessary safety measures in all kinds of work done at height according to the principles of occupational safety, fulfill the function of preventing and softening the fall.

The vertical lifeline, which aims to prevent the distraction of the employee, the falling of any substance on the worker or the possible fall due to one of the equipment used, saves the lives of thousands of employees every year in our country.

It should be noted that all the elements that make up the system are made of stainless steel. It is important that it is resistant to all weather conditions and does not rust in humidity and precipitation in outdoor works. In particular, it is extremely vital that the main connection bracket of the system complies with the quality standards.

Although vertical lifelines depend on the way of working, they are quite reliable in terms of success according to the number of employees and the quality of the fasteners.

Vertical Lifeline Standard

The vertical lifeline standard consists of common systems adopted by the European Union countries. Since our country also carries out harmonization studies within the framework of EU acquis it is obliged to comply with all standards especially in the field of occupational safety.

EN 353-1:2014 is the vertical lifeline standard that all member countries must comply with. By complying with this, it is always possible to ensure the safety of employees.

With the vertical lifelines used within the framework of the determined common standards, safe working at vertical height is ensured in many business areas. In our country, the effect of vertical and horizontal lifelines is very high in the decrease in work accidents due to falling action.

It should be aimed to fix the mounted anchors in a way that will not damage the building and that the employees benefit from this point in case of any fall.

Vertical Lifeline Materials

Vertical lifeline materials should be used in TSE standards. In the assembly of the whole, especially the anchor bracket, it should be taken as a priority not to damage various parts of the building.

Vertical life floor installation should be done by professional experts, possible risks should be analyzed and robust and durable systems should be obtained. The standard of stainless steel must be strictly SS316. The load that will be on during the fall should be calculated and it should be ensured that it has this power.

All necessary reinforcements should be provided in order for the anchors, for which the required thickness and outlet margins are calculated, to be durable during the fall. For this, all equipment and materials should be examined meticulously that they have internationally valid standards.

The use of stainless steel rope is a real life saver. Since these ropes, which are resistant to any oxidation in the open air, are used for a long time and ensure safety in periodic works, their compliance with the relevant quality standards should be checked. Thus, the job security of the employees is fully ensured.

In vertical lifelines, the shock absorbing trolley that prevents the tension during the sudden fall of the employee; must be made of stainless steel. The pressure created by the fall and the weight of the employee should not put the system in a difficult situation.

Adjusting the shock absorber to 30 cm is important for health. Since longer falls can lead to strains and fractures in the worker's body, the scientifically desired range should be adjusted.

On the other hand, it is important that the tensioning element, which will prevent the worker from sagging as a result of the weather event and can adjust the tension, is of the desired quality.

How to Install a Vertical Lifeline?

Vertical lifeline installation should be done entirely by expert teams. In some companies, it is seen that employees both establish their own vertical lifelines and work accordingly. It is extremely risky and dangerous for non-experts to create these ports.

Since lifelines are among the most important elements that ensure the life safety of the employee, they should be established by professionals who are fully trained with a scientific approach.

First of all, all equipment to be used is checked for compliance with quality standards. Then the rope made of stainless steel is installed using the tension rope.

Support brackets should be determined at distances determined by the height and width of the work area. The connection of the worker to the shock absorber trolley is provided. Seat belts and fall prevention equipment should also be preferred according to the height.

The weather conditions in the working area should be checked, wind, precipitation, hot or cold factors that will put the employee in a difficult situation should be taken into account, and if necessary, no work should be done. It is of vital importance for the workers to have personal protective equipment and to have training for working at height in terms of occupational safety measures.
